Structured Cabling Services

“The Internet is down!” – Anytime there is a network outage in the office it seems everybody gets up from their desk to take a break, get some coffee and chat about their weekend plans. That’s because we are in such a “connected” age that you can’t really do much without a connection to the server or Internet.

Today, sharing data is the lifeblood of a business and communication is the pulse that keeps things moving forward. Digital South understands that the proper installation of voice & data cabling is critical to the performance of your telecommunications and information technology systems. It’s the glue that connects your staff to each other and the data driving the business.

Are Cables and Wires Slowing you Down?

A faster network means your employees can work faster.

Some businesses move large files to and from the server throughout the day. Companies like architects, photographers, medical imaging and more. When employees have to wait for files to transfer they are inefficient, missing out on precious hours in the day. With major technology advancements through the years, many buildings are still using outdated cabling technology from the year they were built which transmit data at a fraction of the speed and capacity of the cabling available on the market, today. Just like when you upgrade your computers, upgrading cabling will help improve efficiency, reduce outages and even improve employee morale.

Firewalls, Local Area Networks and WANs

Protect your business, secure your information.

As important as it is to make data quickly and easily available from anywhere, it’s even more important to protect your data and private conversations. Cabling done the wrong way can leave your data and your business vulnerable to unwanted viruses, hack attacks and wire taps. Digital South prides itself in protecting businesses from vulnerabilities giving your business a closed circuit in which data can be sent and transferred securely, even from a remote location.

Cabling Services for Business since 1991

Often times, old or improper cabling cause major interruptions in critical business operations preventing the ability to communicate or share information. All our work is performed in accordance with National Electrical Code regulations, local regulations, and accepted practices in the low voltage voice & data cabling industry. No job is too big or too small. From running cable throughout a Class A building in downtown Tampa to setting up a professional home business, we serve businesses of all sizes.

My employer, Graybar Electric, is the largest supplier in the US of telecom equipment to companies like Digital South. When we built a 200,000 square foot facility in Riverview, FL, we basically had to choose which one of our many customers would install our own telecommunications system. I wasn’t surprised when Digital South was awarded the entire contract. They installed all the voice and data cabling, including fiber optics, telephone system, voice mail, and a loudspeaker paging system with 40 paging speakers. They did an excellent job from start to finish

CAT5E cable is commonly used because it is cost-effective and fast. The general difference between category 5e and category 6 is in the transmission performance. While Cat5e can support gigabit speeds, Cat6 is certified to handle gigabit Ethernet.
Plenum cables are cables that are laid in the plenum spaces of buildings. In building construction, the plenum is the space that is used for air circulation in heating and air conditioning systems, typically between the structural ceiling and the suspended ceiling or under a raised floor. The plenum space is typically used to house the communication cables for the buildings computer and telephone network(s). A Plenum cable is coated with a fire-retardant coating (usually Teflon) so that in case of a fire it does not give off toxic gasses and smoke as it burns. Twisted-pair and coaxial versions of cable are made in plenum versions.
Cable that is run between floors in non-plenum areas is rated as riser cable. The fire requirements on riser cable are not as strict. Thus, plenum cable can always replace riser cable, but riser cable cannot replace plenum cable in plenum spaces.
